Kathmandu ||  In the financial year 2080/081, Nepal imported over 11,000 electric vehicles (EVs), which is nearly three times more than the previous year’s total of 4,050. The Customs Department reported that 11,701 EVs were brought into the country, with an import value of 29.48 billion rupees and generating 13.28 billion rupees in government revenue.

Most of these imported EVs, 6,885 units, were in the 51 to 100 kW power range, while 4,571 units were up to 50 kW. This data includes only cars, jeeps, and vans, excluding electric pickups and three-wheelers.

China was the largest supplier, sending 8,065 EVs, while India supplied 3,377. Specifically, China provided 1,419 EVs up to 50 kW and 6,550 EVs in the 51 to 100 kW range, whereas India supplied 3,002 EVs up to 50 kW and 333 in the 51 to 100 kW range. The rest came from other countries in smaller numbers. The lower tax on EVs up to 100 kW has made them more popular in Nepal. The Nepalese EV market is growing rapidly.
