Bhadra 10 Flood Deals Major Blow to Nepal’s EV Industry

Kathmandu || A sudden flood in the Bhotekoshi River has caused major damage in the Rasuwagadhi customs area, reportedly sweeping away more than 700 electric vehicles and over 100 containers.

According to initial estimates from automobile businesses, more than 200 BYD vehicles were among those affected, along with vehicles from brands including MG, Wuling, Omoda, Jaecoo, iCar, BAIC, Arcfox, Foton and Skywell.

The incident comes at a crucial time as automobile dealers were importing large numbers of vehicles for the upcoming festive season and NADA Auto Show 2026. The disaster may lead to delivery delays for customers who have already booked vehicles.

The flood has also affected commercial goods being transported from China, with an estimated 200–250 containers in the customs area impacted.

While official figures are yet to be confirmed, the incident has highlighted the vulnerability of Nepal’s import and logistics network to natural disasters.
